Who We Are
Rooted in Georgia.
Rising Through Generations.
The Lewis family story begins in the early 1800s in Burke County, Georgia — a story of land, labor, love, and an unbroken chain of resilience that has carried this family forward for nearly two centuries.
At the root of it all stands Polly Lewis, our earliest known matriarch — a farmer who lived her entire life in Burke County and owned the surrounding 175 acres of land that would anchor this family for generations to come.
From Polly came James Lewis, her grandson, who built a family of fourteen children with his beloved wife, Harriet. Those children — raised on the family homestead, close to the land and to one another — became farmers, teachers, railroad men, businesspeople, and community pillars. They spread across the South and to the North, but they never forgot where they came from.
Alongside the Lewis line stands the Evans family — rooted in Millen, Georgia, where Ed and Minerva Evans raised ten children on the Smith Plantation in a community known as "Black Bottom," near the Savannah-Augusta railroad track. Their daughter Ada Evans would marry Alfred Lewis, joining two strong family trees into one enduring legacy.
Today, the Lewis family continues to grow. Members live across the country — in many different places, in many different walks of life. But love and family pride have brought us together across every generation.
"May God Bless Us All, Now and Always."
